چکیده

Information integration and semantic heterogeneity are not trivial tasks. An integrated view must be able to describe various heterogeneous data sources and its interrelation to obtain shared conceptualizations. In this paper, we propose an approach to make a conceptualization of the real world based on conceptual schemas, which are used to generate a semantic description of the geospatial domain. This description attempts to provide the guidelines to formalize the geographic domain in form of geospatial ontologies according to specific contexts. In this case, we propose that conceptual schemas are built in order to abstract specific and essential parts of the geospatial domain and to represent schematically which geospatial entities should be collected and how they must be organized. We perceive that geographic data modeling requires models that are more specific and capable of capturing the semantics of geospatial data, offering higher abstraction mechanisms and implementation independence. Therefore, we approach conceptual schemas to describe the contents of the real world abstraction to specify the behavior of the geospatial entities, in which the context plays an important role to guarantee shared and explicit conceptualizations. Our research is mainly oriented to propose an approach related to conceptual issues concerning what would be required to establish ontologies of the geospatial domain. In addition, the work is led to formalize appropriate methods to represent ontologies of the geospatial domain.

Ontology-driven Resolution of Semantic Heterogeneities in GDB Conceptual Schemas

As the geographic information system (GIS) community grows, more and more people needs to share geographic information. As modern GIS data is stored in geographic databases their conceptual schemas have to be, at least, interoperable. Due to the fact that the databases are designed by many different people from different countries, using different languages and maybe with different definitions ...

Deriving Spatial Integrity Constraints from Geographic Application Schemas

Integrity constraints of various kinds must be observed when creating or updating a database in order to preserve the semantics and the quality of stored data (Elmasri & Navathe, 2000). Within the scope of geographic applications, integrity assurance requires special attention from the designer, since most geographic applications use data that depend on spatial relationships (Egenhofer & Franzo...

A Methodology and Tool for Top-Down Relational Database Design

This paper presents a methodology for logical design of relational schemas and integrity constraints using semantic binary schemas. This is a top-down methodology. In this methodology , a conceptual description of an enterprise is designed using a semantic binary model. Then, this description is converted into the relational database design. The paper also describes a tool which automates all t...

Meaningfulness of Religious Language in the Light of Conceptual Metaphorical Use of Image Schema: A Cognitive Semantic Approach

According to modern religious studies, religions are rooted in certain metaphorical representations, so they are metaphorical in nature. This article aims to show, first, how conceptual metaphors employ image schemas to make our language meaningful, and then to assert that image-schematic structure of religious expressions, by which religious metaphors conceptualize abstract meanings, is the ba...

Applying Ontologies in the Knowledge Discovery in Geographic Databases

This article proposes a software architecture to integrate geographic databases conceptual models. The goal is the preprocessing phase on the knowledge discovery in database, using geographic databases conceptual schemas as input data, in order to obtain analysis patterns candidates. The semantic unification is very important in this process, since the data mining tools are not capable to recog...
